Brookgreen Gardens
Brookgreen is one of the country's leading cultural and educational institutions and a National Historic Landmark. Within its more than 9,200 acres are the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve, the Huntington Sculpture Garden and the Center for American Sculpture. Brookgreen Gardens is the floral jewel of South Carolina’s coastal community. The land that comprises Brookgreen Gardens is a diverse mix of forested swamps, salt marsh, sandy ridges and fresh tidal swamps. The sculpture collection currently contains over 900 works spanning the entire period of American sculpture -- from the early 1800s to the present.The thousands of acres in Brookgreen's Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve are rich with evidence of the native plants and animals of the South Carolina Lowcountry as well as the great rice plantations of the 1800's.
