A Sweet Tooth Lover’s Guide to Pawleys Island Pawleys Island isn’t just for beachcombers and hammock-loungers, it’s a sugar lover’s dream. Whether you’re into creamy
Pawleys Island, nestled along South Carolina’s Hammock Coast, is a haven for beachgoers and golf lovers alike. With a backdrop of Spanish moss-draped oaks and coastal marshes, the golf courses here are some of the finest in the Southeast.
A staple of Lowcountry golf and consistently ranked among the top public courses in America, Caledonia is a visual and strategic masterpiece. Designed by the late Mike Strantz, this course combines Southern charm with pristine fairways, surrounded by blooming azaleas and live oaks. The par-4 18th hole, with its green guarded by water and a clubhouse gallery, is iconic.
Also designed by Mike Strantz, True Blue is Caledonia’s bolder sibling. Wide fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and creative bunkering make it both challenging and enjoyable for all skill levels. It’s ranked as one of the top 100 public courses by Golf Digest, and the layout rewards shot-making and creativity.
Built on the site of a historic plantation, Heritage Club offers one of the most scenic and serene rounds in the area. Towering oaks, freshwater lakes, and marshes define this Dan Maples design. The course is part of the Legends Golf Group and is known for its immaculate greens and thoughtful routing. (pictured)
A classic Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, Pawleys Plantation blends marsh views with tight fairways and small greens. The back nine features some of the most picturesque holes along the South Carolina coast, especially the par-3 13th, where the tee shot plays over a saltwater marsh.
One of the oldest courses on the Grand Strand, Litchfield Country Club is a traditional parkland-style course that offers a relaxed yet refined golf experience. It’s not the longest course, but its mature trees, doglegs, and small greens keep players honest and engaged throughout the round.
After a day on the greens, unwind in comfort at The Litchfield Inn. Located just minutes from all five courses, this beachfront hotel offers the perfect blend of Lowcountry charm and coastal luxury. Whether you’re sipping drinks by the ocean or planning your next round from a private balcony, the Litchfield Inn is where golf trips become unforgettable getaways.
